Heat pump grants: £7,500 off with the Boiler Upgrade Scheme
The government's Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) takes £7,500 off the cost of an air source or ground source heat pump in England and Wales. It isn't means-tested, you don't need to be on benefits, and you don't need an EPC any more. We check your home with you and introduce one trusted, MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant for you.
Off an air source or ground source heat pump, taken straight off the installer's price.
For homes off the gas grid replacing an oil or LPG boiler, for applications until 31 March 2027.
Towards an air-to-air heat pump.
Amounts are set by the government and can change. Your installer confirms what applies to your home before you commit.
How the Boiler Upgrade Scheme works
The grant isn't paid to you as cash. Your MCS-certified installer applies to Ofgem on your behalf, and once the voucher is approved the £7,500 comes straight off the price you pay.
- For homes in England and Wales, owned by you (including landlords and second-home owners).
- Not means-tested: any income, no benefits needed.
- No EPC needed since 28 April 2026, and no loft or cavity wall insulation required first (though insulation helps a heat pump work well).
- Usually replaces a gas, oil, LPG or electric heating system.
- Paid for through the government's Warm Homes Plan, funded to 2029/30.

Where we come in
Ranjha Home Grants is an independent introduction service. We:
- talk through your home and answer your questions in plain English, in English, Urdu, Hindi or Bengali;
- check the basics with you before anyone visits;
- introduce you to one trusted, MCS-certified installer, so you're not chased by several companies;
- check in with you afterwards to make sure you were looked after.
Adding solar panels or a home battery at the same time can cut the cost of running a heat pump further.
We don't install, and we can't promise you'll be eligible, that a grant will be approved, or that an installation will be free.
Heat pump grant questions
Is the heat pump grant means-tested?
No. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme has no income test and you don't need to be on benefits. Any homeowner or landlord in England or Wales can apply, whatever their income.
How much is the heat pump grant in 2026?
£7,500 off an air source or ground source heat pump. Homes off the gas grid replacing an oil or LPG boiler can get £9,000 for applications until 31 March 2027.
Do I need an EPC to get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant?
Not any more. Since 28 April 2026 you don't need an Energy Performance Certificate. If you have one, the installer sends it; if not, a fuel bill or photos of your boiler will do.
Can landlords and tenants get the grant?
Landlords can apply for homes they own. Tenants can't apply themselves, but with the landlord's written agreement the landlord can have one installed.
Is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme the same as the Warm Homes grant?
They're related but different. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is paid for through the government's Warm Homes Plan and is open to everyone. The council's Warm Homes: Local Grant is for lower-income households, and you can't use both for the same heat pump. See ECO4 and Warm Homes grants.
Will a heat pump work in my home?
Most homes can use one, but it depends on things like insulation, radiators and space for the outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder. The installer's free survey answers this properly.
How long does it take?
It varies with survey availability and the voucher application. Your installer gives you a timeline after the survey.
Do I have to pay anything to enquire?
No. Checking your home with us and the survey are free, with no obligation to go ahead.
